As far back as I can remember, Father’s Day was more a source of sorrow than a day of celebration.

I lost my father in a car accident when I was very young, under very bad circumstances. And my only memories of him were not happy ones.

When I was a young mother, I sat in church on Father’s Day, trying to find comfort in the fact I was blessed to have so many wonderful “father figures” in my life over the years. I was truly trying to be “thankful in all things”.

Then a song filled the room and flooded the recesses of my heart with an unspoken truth …

                                “She’s got her Father’s eyes,
Her Father’s eyes;
Eyes that find the good in things,
When good is not around;
Eyes that find the source of help,
When help just can’t be found;
Eyes full of compassion,
Seeing every pain;
Knowing what you’re going through
And feeling it the same.
Just like my Father’s eyes,
My Father’s eyes,
My Father’s eyes,
Just like my Father’s eyes.”

I knew that God was truly a “Father to the Fatherless” , and was always there through everything I had been through.

What I hadn’t realized was how my life could be a reflection of His healing power, filling that void.

I wanted to be living proof of Gary Chapman’s words in that chorus of “My Father’s Eyes”!

I began to see so many lives missing that “father” who would love them unconditionally and hold them in high esteem as the princesses they were created to be!

It didn’t seem to make a difference if a father had died tragically, or was just tragically absent from their lives, I began to find that all girls have the same need.

I wanted to help them find what I had found that Sunday morning!

I love to share my story with girls of every age. Every week I encounter a life that just needs to be encouraged by the love of her Father in heaven.

I pray one day those girls will say …

                 “She had her Father’s eyes,
Her Father’s eyes;
Eyes that found the good in things,
When good was not around;
Eyes that found the source of help,
When help would not be found;
Eyes full of compassion,
Seeing every pain;
Knowing what you’re going through,
And feeling it the same.
Just like my Father’s eyes,
My Father’s eyes,
My Father’s eyes,
Just like my Father’s eyes.
My Father’s eyes,
My Father’s eyes,
Just like my Father’s eyes.”

Love,
