Is there truly such a thing as mind over matter?
Or is this just another fantastical platitude to help us barge through difficult tasks?
What if what’s on our mind really is what matters?
All around me conversations recently have been about how much what we think controls what we actually accomplish. Unfortunately so many of us allow layers of experiences, perceptions and thoughts to dictate our whole life and prevent us from pursuing the goals we were created to accomplish.
What bothers me more than anything is that we (especially women) have continued for centuries to allow this to happen! I am learning to make it an intentional practice to carefully evaluate what I am thinking about and how my thoughts are controlling my actions. I have come to realize that I have limiting beliefs going on in my life. But I don’t always know how to accurately identify them and stop giving them the power they seem to have.
The most important reasoning behind my wanting to identify them and breakthrough is because of the example I desire to give the young women that I lead.
If I can’t figure out how to –
* move past the lies in my mind –
* overcome limiting beliefs
* move into a life of power and victory
how in the world am I going to encourage and teach them to do the same?
You may not think that you have limiting beliefs or lies in your life holding you back. That is probably the lie in itself.
Recently one of my girls brought a hand painted journal that she made especially for me. It was decorated with watercolor flowers surrounding a big green “C” (my initial in my favorite color). On the inside she had painted ”created for a purpose.” She was encouraging each of us in the group with this inspiring thought in the journals she gifted us. She had no idea what that nights message was going to be about. As we absorbed the message about changing our life by changing our thinking the quote that we were created for a purpose hit home. As we learned that most of life‘s battles are won or lost in the mind reality sunk in.
You were made for a Purpose, but when it comes to mind over matter you can honestly say “the struggle is real”.
Whatever battle you are facing you can probably trace most of the anxiety back to what is going on in your mind. We were then encouraged to ask ourselves:
“In what area of my life is my limited mind trying to talk me out of doing that God wants me to do?”
Obviously this is something that will have to be evaluated on a daily and weekly basis. This is definitely something that I want to give my time and thoughts to. How about you? Are you beginning to identify thoughts and lies that are limiting your life? Let’s take these thoughts captive and fight back!!!
I am so tired of letting the enemy win and hold me back after all we have lives to save and a world to change because as my new journal states –
I was created for a purpose!
“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (2 Cor. 10:5 NIV)
