I was driving down the unfamiliar highway with my eyes darting from road to GPS when the blue line I had been following suddenly vanished. I had been prompted (& prepared) for an upcoming exit but the entire right lane, as far as I could see, was now blocked with all exits closed. Responsible for a car full of hungry passengers I felt compelled to make a choice in some direction.. Panic driven insecurities began to rise as we drifted further and further from our designated destination.

Isn’t that just like life?

We have a dream or desire of what we want to do, or where we want to go. We map out our goals and recite our plans to all who will listen.
We strategically set our destination into our gps tracker having complete faith that we will arrive at the estimated time. Anxiety creeps into our itinerary as we see the orange barricades looming ahead. We have been cruising along trusting that time and expended effort would bring us to the anticipated journeys end.

Suddenly our pathway becomes hazy. A thickening fog only adds to the perfect formula for a panic attack.

What do you do when life throws a detour at you?
When the destination seems lost or unclear and your dreams derailed?

Does panic immobilize you? Or do you persevere focused on the goal?

Here are three proven strategies to get you where you’re going-

Guidance- Seek input from wise mentors and/or coaches.
Instead of charging aimlessly ahead, take time to get counsel from those who have the wisdom and experience to guide you in the right direction. A life coach is a great option to help you get back on course.

Patience- If this destination is still a burning passion, don’t let a detour cause you to give up your plan entirely. Delays aren’t always code for disregard. Recently a monumental birthday trip had to be postponed due to timing and finances. After patiently planning for almost three years I had a greater appreciation for my dream vacation!

Strategy- This may be the time to reevaluate what you are doing and how you are doing it. If you continue to come up against roadblocks again and again you probably need a new strategy. Look for alternate “routes” by researching, reading or maybe taking a course to grow yourself forward.

Most importantly, share the journey. There is something empowering about staying on course in community. The passengers you choose to take along with you will prove invaluable in helping you stay focused when the path gets overwhelming. They will be the first to remind you of the destination
you were once so passionate about.
When my blue lined GPS vanished a back seat passenger was able to verbally guide us ( thankfully) to our destination.

I’ve learned that I may lose my way occasionally, so I am proactive in sharing my dreams and destinations with those around me.

Where are you dreaming of?

I’d love to join you on your journey.
