As captivating stories of the royal wedding emerge all around us fantasy seems to collide with reality.
There is a contagious energy causing childlike faith to rekindle our own fairytale dreams.
Whether it was to one day meet your knight in shining armor or valiantly charge out to save the world – we have to admit deep down we all have a dream.
What does your dream look like?
A dream doesn’t have to mean impossible, in fact (because I have a book that tells me so) it could also be symbolic.
Depending on where you are in life right now the pursuit of your dream could be in one of three stages:
1) Your dreams are alive and well and they still remain the guiding light at the end of the tunnel.
2) You’ve come to a place in life where “reality” has set in and you now believe your dreams are foolish and unattainable.
(Or perhaps the time has passed you by).
3) There are dreams that your heart aches to fulfill but you have no idea how to begin the journey to get there.
Bonus: All your dreams have already come true!
If you are like me you spend most of your life believing that all things are possible!
The only thing that stands between you and your dreams is taking the next step every day in the right direction. You have a clear vision of where you are going and obstacles are merely delays to getting the inevitable. Stage 1 is a beautiful place to be!
Somewhere along the way I fell into Stage 2! Discouragement overtook me and thoughts of perhaps it was “too late” set in. Then something crazy happened, I found a list that I had written of my dreams a few years ago. And to my surprise, my joyous surprise, I realized some of those dreams had recently come true!
Obviously, I’m already married to my “knight in shining armor”, but my heart longed to walk the paths of Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, to see castles in England and while I’m in Europe, pop over for crepes in Paris! I’m not talking small dreams here, but they were achievable. Maybe it took me a little longer than I anticipated, but it happened. Five years ago this dream felt insurmountable.
Surprisingly, another dream on my list is coming close to reality this week. So close, in fact that the thought of it brought me to tears.
When Fairy Tale and Reality collide ~
What dream would evoke that response in you?
So, the answer is often found transitioning out of stage 3 – that is how I realized feeling trapped in stage 2 is a lie.
Have you identified at least one of your dreams? (I’d love for you to share it with me in the comments).
Now write it down somewhere. Remember how I found the written list of my dreams?
That could be you in five years.
This is where it gets sticky ~
Stop dreaming and start doing!
You have to take action. Fortunately you don’t have to do it alone. Almost everything that I have accomplished is because I shared my dream with someone close to me. When you do that you have accountability, give them permission to ask about your progress towards your dream. Or, if you are like me, permission to drag you to the place where you can take the next step. ( Getting books for research, signing up for a class, attending a meeting- you get the idea).
So as you watch the royal wedding play out or get caught up binging on Hallmark movies do not be deceived into thinking that something like that could never happen to you.
A Fairy Tale could be in your future if you
Define your dreams, write them down, share them with someone who will hold you accountable, take action and then
don’t forget to let me know when they come true!
