As I reflected on the profound significance of Easter weekend an unusual train of thought flooded my mind.
I have goaded myself like a parrot, when selfishness controls my behaviour, with
“It’s not about me, it’s not about me!” Or warning friends and family, “It’s not about you.”
So, imagine my surprise when the clouds parted and beams of light projected down from the heavens to proclaim;
“Easter, It’s about you!”
(Ok, maybe I made the clouds & light part up.) But the new outlook on a well known bible passage brought me to tears!
From Facebook statuses to placards at football games John 3:16 proclaims “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
God so loved me? He so loved you?
But how? Why?
And I remembered the day my grand-daughter was born. I would try to move mountains for that baby girl. I felt a love so great, I thought my heart would burst. But she didn’t do anything to earn that love. She was just born. She just was.
A couple of years later, my son was greeted at the door by the same grand-daughter running & leaping into his arms. As he embraced his daughter, he asked in awe, “Mom, you love me this much? This much?” A concept he never understood until he experienced the same unconditional love. Maybe it is hard for you to conceive, just as it was hard for me.
God loves me so much! He loves YOU so much!
Romans 5:8 says that “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Because He loved us so much.
At that moment, like my grand-daughter, we did nothing to motivate that love. But as she ran into her father’s waiting arms, we can mimick that action by running full force into our Heavenly Father’s loving embrace.
And who knows, maybe the heavens will part and rays of light shine down when He realizes how much we love Him!
Take time to bask in His love today.
Beautiful, Carolina. I’m basking in His love AND the warm VA sunshine today 🙂
